Updating list of appendix tables in word

Want to add a table of contents to your Word document, one that can be easily updated if you change your doc? All you have to do is format your Word document appropriately. Format your document using heading styles found on the Home tab, e.g., Heading 1, Heading 2, and so on.
) Anyway, you'll be pleased to know that adding tables of contents is very straightforward.
The reason being is that you will have done all the 'hard work' in advance by marking up all the headings with various section commands (, etc).
They should be separate from the main table of contents, and listed below. you’ve inserted your figure or table then typed its caption underneath, haven’t you? You can see a drop down list which says Figure at the moment. Once you’ve clicked, the Caption section above it will also change to read Table 1.
But what if you’ve got figures and/or tables and you want to show those in the contents pages, too?
It can be a bit fiddly, and I’ve partly written this post to give myself a reference document, too.
If you write long reports, manuals, books, theses and so on, it's standard practice to add tables of contents (perhaps also tables of figures and tables of tables too) and depending on the type of document you may require an index too.
